Progress of Indonesian Export and Import Throughout Januari – April 2021

​The value of Indonesian export as of April 2021 has reached US$ 67.38 billion, increased by 24.96% comparing to the same period in the previous year. The increase in export performance was triggered by an increase in the export value of oil and gas products by 27.14% and non-oil and gas products by 24.84%.

Comparing to March 2021, Indonesia’s non-oil and gas exports have increased by 0.44% in April 2021. The increase occurred for iron and steel products by 17.50%. Meanwhile, Indonesian Central Bureau of Statistics also recorded a significant decline in the export value of animal / vegetable fats and oils by 13.81%.
According the sector, non-oil and gas exports from the processing industry during January-April 2021 experienced an increase by 25.96% comparing to the same period in 2020. Exports of Indonesian agricultural products and mining products also increased respectively by 15.75% and 19.66%.
 

The main export destinations for Indonesia’s non-oil and gas product are China (US $ 3.93 billion), followed by the United States (US $ 2.03 billion), and Japan (US $ 1.32 billion). Meanwhile, non-oil and gas exports to ASEAN and the European Union respectively reached US$ 3.59 billion and US $ 1.39 billion.
By province, the origin of the largest export goods during January-April 2021 was West Java Province with a total export value of US$ 11.01 billion (16.34%), followed by East Java Province with export value amounting to US$ 7.36 (10.91%) and Riau Province with export value reached US$ 6.05 billion (8.97%).
Meanwhile, Indonesia’s import value during January-April 2021 experienced an increase of 15.40% comparing to the same period in the previous year. The increase occurred due to an increase in oil and gas imports by 15.54% and non-oil and gas imports by 15.39%. The increase in oil and gas imports was triggered by a 22% jump in imports of crude oil, 11.85% of oil and 16.33% of gas.
 

Indonesia’s non-oil and gas imports are dominated by electrical machinery and equipment, which reached US$ 2.11 billion with an increase of 8.61%, followed by seeds and fruits containing oil (vegetable fats), vegetables, plastics and plastic goods, and fruits. Indonesian import value decreased for ships, boats and floating structures, food industry waste, machinery and mechanical equipment, chemical products and pharmaceutical products.
 

According to country of origin, Indonesia’s largest imports came from China (31.65%) followed by Japan (8.31%) and South Korea (5.78%). The highest contribution came from the ASEAN with total amount of US$ 9.79 billion (18.65%) and the European Union amounting to US$ 3.28 billion (6.25%).
